Introducing Pantone's Greenery in Your Kitchen

February 17, 2017

In December, Pantone announced its chosen color of 2017: PANTONE 15-0343 Greenery. Pantone says this color “signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.” It’s meant to “evoke the first days of spring when nature's greens revive, restore and renew.” One thing is for sure, Greenery is coming to designer clothing and home decor. Kitchens and bathrooms are the ideal place for the punchy green color. Here’s your guide to staying on-trend without changing your home entirely.

Perhaps the easiest way to incorporate Pantone’s Color of the Year is through greenery, itself. Incorporating living plants in design has been steadily increasing in popularity. In kitchens and bathrooms, it gives an air of freshness and life. Some plants even help purify the air. To be at the forefront of the trend, snag a fiddle leaf fig to sit near a window.

A more bold way to use this trend is as a backsplash. Coupled with modern, all-white kitchens, pops of green above the countertops offer contrast and an element that’s unique. The key here is to let the rest of the space be white or neutral and allow the backsplash to be the focal point to keep things simple and easy on the eyes.

Another way to add greenery to an all-white kitchen is with tableware. Combined with the ultra-trendy open shelving, it adds interest to an otherwise predictable space.

Textiles also bring in the green easily, and are perfect for kitchens and bathrooms. Kilim or vintage rugs and draperies are perfect for the kitchen. For the bathroom, textured shower curtains or towels are worth consideration. This color can be particularly instrumental in brightening up bathrooms lacking natural sunlight. It’s an easy way to bring in the outdoors in a different way.

Certainly, wall decor is always a suitable way to add an accent color to an already decorated place. It’s also a great idea for someone who likes to follow trends since it can be easily changed with the passing years.

If you would prefer a more toned down approach, look for a small piece of decor in the greenery shade to add a small touch before taking the plunge. A few ideas include canisters, vases, baskets and candles. Odds are, you will love it so much, you will begin searching for larger pieces in the bold color. While it might appear bright at first glance, small doses mixed into your decor will look natural and fresh.
