If you’re planning to build a new home then you probably already know that quite a few different home professionals will be involved in the process. But what you may not know is when to bring each of these professionals on board, including your cabinet company. Here’s what we recommend.
As your cabinet builder, we want to be involved pretty early on in the planning although we do recommend having a house plan drawn up before visiting us so we can make any necessary adjustments or modifications. We also prefer to be consulted again before breaking ground on your new home so that we can review the plans and, again, make changes where needed, such as moving major appliances.
Contractors and Interior Designers
If you’re on the fence about hiring a general contractor, as home experts we highly recommend hiring one if you’re not familiar with the construction industry. Though the contractor is nothing more than a supervisor for your project, they make daunting tasks like scheduling work crews simpler. Still think you can handle it? Here’s a list of different work crews you’ll need to hire throughout the home building process:
As the homeowner, you’ll have enough on your plate throughout the building stages and hiring a contractor will take quite a load off your plate. If you’re still trying to save money, consider doing some or most of the planning a contractor would do yourself and then hire a contractor to take care of the areas that are unfamiliar.
Interior designers are not required to pull off a new home build, but we strongly recommend hiring one, particularly if you have a tough time making decisions. If you’re budget conscious, you can save money by waiting to hire the designer a bit later in the building process. Interior designers aren’t necessarily needed at the start of planning but they are great at making sure your home is laid out to fit your needs. They may also pay for themselves by helping you avoid costly change orders.
