2018 Kitchen Cabinet Trends

Greige has been the go-to tone in recent years, but in 2018 homeowners are getting bolder and going for green-grey, grey-blue, and purple-grey tones.
If you want to go even bolder with your cabinet colors, a dark jewel tone may be more your style. Shades of green, blue, purple, and yellow began popping up on kitchen cabinets in the U.S. in 2017, and the trend continues to gain momentum as we move forward through 2018. Emerald, ruby, amethyst, sapphire, and yellow topaz are increasingly popular choices for cabinet colors. Choosing one of these shades to cover all of the cabinetry in your kitchen may be too bold for some homeowners which is why many are incorporating this trend by way of a feature wall of cabinets or the kitchen island.
Two-tone cabinets are also rising in popularity, and though this trend is not exactly a new concept, interior designers and decorators are re-imagining this style by mixing materials to get the look. For instance, white cabinets may be paired with wood facings for a warm neutral look while others may combine stainless steel with traditional cabinetry for a contemporary industrial style.

Shaker style cabinets are THE cabinet style trend for 2018, according to Houzz’s 2018 Kitchen Trends Study. An overwhelming 57% of homeowners surveyed in the study said they’ll choose timeless shaker style cabinets for their 2018 kitchen reno project while flat-front cabinets are just beginning their rise to popularity this year. Homeowners looking to be ahead of the curve in design trends will likely favor flat-front cabinets over shaker and raised-front styles.
Minimal or no upper shelving is a trend that only grows hotter as we move through the year. While some homeowners are choosing open shelving for an upper storage solution, others are nixing the use of upper cabinets all together.
In the last few years, eliminating the use of cabinet hardware all together has been a hot trend among homeowners. This year, hardware is quite literally back in black as we see black fixtures rise in popularity throughout 2018. Brass and gold materials will also remain popular.
The Function
